Monster Mash Party

Hosting a Halloween Party? Do the Monster Mash!

Big Frankenstein adult costumeCan’t think of a cool theme for your Halloween party? The best thing to do that is organize a party that will heavily draw on the most popular Halloween icons: the monsters. A monster mash party not only will stir people’s imagination, but it will also blend perfectly with the traditional Halloween meaning. In addition to that, it is a flexible theme that enables the organizers to put in practice their craziest ideas! Everything can become real when planning a monster mash party.

In fact, there are several directions in which the organizers can go when planning such a party. The first (and probably the most obvious one) is the scary party, with skeletons hanging from the walls, skulls decorating the tables and countertops, red drinks imitating blood and creepy costumed party-people attending the debauchery.

Another direction in which one can go with the monster mash party is the masquerade. Ask people to double dress in order to create the image of monsters having a costumed party. It would be nice to see Count Dracula trying to be Frankenstein and wolf men fitting in a zombie or Igor costume. It will create a grotesque and playful atmosphere that will entertain all the guests.

The last suggestion for the monster mash party is a classy dinner party where the monsters will dress elegantly to attend a formal party. This is an original twist to the traditional monster mash party which will bring something new in the old monster themed party.

Whatever type of monster party you choose to go for, there are some things which need to be taken care of, such as invitations, decorations, activities and party favors. Below you will find some ideas regarding each one of these topics which will help you plan your monster mash party easier.

Invitations

Frankenstein Party PinataBecause this party is all about monsters, you will want an invitation which thoroughly matches the theme. Thus, you can either purchase some monster invitations from the internet or party planners, as there are plenty models available for this type of party or you can do them yourself.

If the latter option is your choice, then look for stock pictures with haunted houses or castles or choose your favorite monster picture and print the image on a piece of paper along with the details about the time and place of the party. Use some red liquid (water mixed with colorant, red wine or even red nail polish) to create some bloody spots on the paper for a creepier look.

Decorations

According to the type of monster mash party you want to organize, you will need to decorate the house accordingly. Yet, there are some items which should not miss from your décor, such as tombstones, skeletons, spider cobs, ghosts and lot of blood (fake, of course).

Because Frankenstein’s monster will be around, you can also decorate one room as a chemistry lab with colorful substances bubbling in glasses and tubes. Place a coffin somewhere in the party area, so that Dracula and his vampires will have a place to rest. It is also recommendable to find out what your friends are going to wear for the party so that you include a specific item for them in your decoration. This will make them feel important and will certainly save you from their furry.

Activities

Monsters are easy to please, but you can at least try to keep them occupied and avoid disaster. Try one or more of these activities to keep them in good mood and have a successful party.

Mummy disguise – divide the guests into groups of two or three people, give them rolls of toilet paper and ask them to wrap one of the members of the group in toilet paper. The team which covers their mummy completely in paper wins.

Who am I? – cover all mirrors from the house as well as all items in which the image can be reflected and then pin an image onto each guest’s back without them seeing it. Then ask each guest to find out who he/she is by asking questions about the image on the back. The question “Who am I?” or any derivate is prohibited.

Monster Words – choose the name of a monster (e.g. Frankenstein, Dracula, Werewolf, Vampire) and ask people to derive words using only the letters from the monster’s name. the guest coming up with the highest number of words wins.

Creating Frankenstein’s monster – hide numerous parts of Frankenstein’s monster’s body, divide the guests in two teams and ask them to look for the body parts and assemble them to look like the monster. Make sure that you have duplicate items of all body parts (two skulls, four hands, four legs and so on), so that each team has the chance to create the monster.

Party favors

Candies, gummy worms and vampire teeth and monster party treat bags can be offered as party treats.

There are numerous monsters in popular culture. Why not explore people’s inclination for dark parties and celebrate Halloween in a gloomy, yet fun manner? The monster mash parties offer you lots of possibilities to play with a traditional theme and make it new and fun each time! You can be sure yours will be the hottest party in the neighborhood this year!
